Sustainable sourcing from waste
On average, Plomp & Zonen B.V. has about 600 container bins and trailers at different locations throughout the Netherlands. We use them to collect scrap wood from various wood-processing companies and organizations. For them it is waste, for us it is the raw material for making the purely natural end products in which we are specialized.
Service for our suppliers
For our suppliers, it is important for us to collect and sort the scrap wood from their production processes on time. This ensures that their processes do not stagnate and that their waste is disposed of efficiently. We can place trailers or special suction containers on location for collecting waste wood. This means our suppliers have one thing less to worry about and can completely focus on their own operations and processing.
We endeavor to be as sustainable as possible in the way we collect our raw materials. Plomp & Zonen B.V. has its own fleet of vehicles and operates 35 truck-trailer combinations supported by on average 10 truck-trailer combinations from external transporters. This enables us to be extremely flexible and the routes we drive to collect scrap wood and deliver end products to our distributors are carefully planned and coordinated. We always try to avoid having to set out on the road with an empty truck. Operating in this way helps us save energy and reduce our environmental impact. Our truck-trailer combinations also meet the recently introduced Euro IV and Euro V standards, which means they drive more cleanly.
The importance of sustainability
Our prioritization of sustainability is shown by, among other things, that fact that we have installed ely 9240 solar panels on the roofs of our factory buildings. This has made to our production processes virtually carbon neutral.
Combined heat and power (CHP)
In our production chain, we make optimal use of combined heat and power (CHP) to generate electricity. Sustainability is Plomp & Zonen B.V.’s trump card!
Committed to the environment
To dry our wood shavings, we use the heat released when generating power. We feed the electricity that is surplus to our requirements back to the mains. The water vapor emitted during the drying process passes through an air scrubber to reduce the excessive smell of wood in the surrounding area.
